When you buy or build your new home, everything is brand new: New paint, new floors, new fixtures, and new appliances. To help keep all these things looking new over time, it's a great idea to take the proper care for them.
To help keep your new appliances clean in your home, follow these tips! To clean stubborn cooked-on stains on glass tops, soak the area in the strongest cleaner your cook top can handle and with a single-edged scraper, scrape slowly and firmly. Be careful not to press too hard and hold the scraper at a 30-40 degree angle. After you have scraped the stains, wipe the cook top clean.
Grates from a gas cook top can be run in the dishwasher as long as you check your manual to make sure it is safe. For cooked- on stains on grates, soak them in warm, soapy water and scrub gently. A scouring pad can be used if they are not coated and for coated grates, use a sponge.
For electric stover burners in new homes, remove them from the stove top when they are completely cool. Most should slide out with a gentle tug and lift from the connection point. Using a cloth and mild dish soap and water, rinse any residue from the burner coils. Take care not to get any part of the the electrical connection wet, and don't submerge any part of the burners. For cooked-on stains, make a paste from baking soda and water, then apply it to the tough spot. Give it about 20 minutes to sit, then scrub and rinse the burner. Make sure the burners are completely dry before you try to replace them.
