Pointe Homes Helping El Paso Move Forward
Have you checked out the June Men's Issue of The City Magazine? Our Builder/Owner, Carlos, is featured and discusses revitalizing El Paso by building spaces that "innovate and inspire" the city.
Villalobos founded Pointe Homes with his brother in 2006 and began his first large-scale project with building Las Lunas subdivision. There were many challenges, but Villalobos continued to push forward. Another way to draw attention up is with string lights. They will help illuminate the area and add some charm. You can even suit it to your style with bulbs, lanterns, or mason jars.
No matter the space, a mirror can always make any small space appear more open. Add some contrast with a gold or more ornate mirror above a rustic plant stand.
Furniture that is too big will clutter the area. Instead, choose smaller furniture that does not obstruct the flow.

Ceiling Accents in Your New Home
When you are buying your new home or building a custom home from scratch, there are so many details and features to consider: material for countertops, faucets, window treatments, doors, etc. But don't forget about your ceiling!
Designing your ceiling to your taste and style can really add movement and variation to your new home. Wooden beams, like the ones shown above, can add a sense of warmth and coziness to any room. Arches can add movement and allow your new home to flow.
If you have a more traditional style, coffered ceilings look beautiful, especially in kitchens. If your style is more modern, a recessed ceiling with a contrasting color painted in the step can add a little bit of drama and allow any small space to appear larger.

Cottage-Style Kitchen Tips
If your style is more traditional, and you love the look of a cottage-style kitchen in your new home, Better Homes and Gardens, gives their tips!
Open shelving in your kitchen, especially with brackets to hold the shelves, is a sure way to give that cottage-style look. If you have existing cabinets in place, no need to install new ones. Simply remove the doors.
If privacy is not a major concern in your kitchen, paned glass windows and doors will give the kitchen a lot of natural light. You can even add curtains to the inside of the doors if you do want a little bit of privacy. Or you can also add plantation shutters to some windows
Patina on furniture gives off a well-worn look, and beaded boards along walls and islands also work well. Use cooler tones or paint the beaded boards white. However, don't be afraid to add a bright color to make things pop!
All of this looks great on top of wood flooring. Be sure to get a natural tone that you think works best, whether it is dark or light.

Home Safety Tips for the Winter
We are very fortunate that our snow in El Paso only lasted a couple of days and was not too dangerous. However, if you know a bad storm is approaching, there are a few things you can do around your home to prepare for a power outage. House Beautiful gives their tips:
Prepare Your Emergency Kit
No matter where you live, it's good to have an emergency kit prepared in your home. It should have several items, including "a hand-crank or battery-powered radio, flashlights, a first aid kit (with gauze, tape, bandages, antibiotic ointment, aspirin, a blanket, non-latex gloves, scissors, hydrocortisone, thermometer, tweezers, and an instant cold compress), extra batteries, a whistle, hand sanitizer, garbage bags, and a tool kit.
Fill Up Your Car
It's safer to NOT drive during a storm, but in case you do, make sure to fill your car prior to the storm. And, always carry an emergency kit for your vehicle.
Stock Up on Food and Water
House Beautiful suggests "stocking up with enough water for three days — one gallon of water per person per day. You'll also need food for at least three days and a can opener. "
Fill Your Tub
In case you water gets shut off, you can skip the shower, but use water from the tub to keep filling the toilet.
Keep the Refrigerator and Freezer Closed
To keep your food lasting longer, keep the doors closed. Food can be safe up to four hours without the electricity. However, after the storm, be sure to toss "any perishable foods (like meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy and leftovers) that have been above 40 degrees for over two hours."
