Expand Your Small Patio in Easy Ways

It's patio weather! Time to sit outside and relax with these warm evenings. And you don't need a large space to enjoy your patio. BHG gives their tips on how to make a small patio space appear bigger!

Outdoor drapes helps draw your attention up and away from the floor space. Add some style with a bamboo pole as a curtain rod.

Another way to draw attention up is with string lights. They will help illuminate the area and add some charm. You can even suit it to your style with bulbs, lanterns, or mason jars.

No matter the space, a mirror can always make any small space appear more open. Add some contrast with a gold or more ornate mirror above a rustic plant stand.

Furniture that is too big will clutter the area. Instead, choose smaller furniture that does not obstruct the flow.

If you have a patio or any outdoor space, utilize it and enjoy these summer days. And hey, it's El Paso, you can use it all year round!

Cottage-Style Kitchen Tips

If your style is more traditional, and you love the look of a cottage-style kitchen in your new home, Better Homes and Gardens, gives their tips!

Open shelving in your kitchen, especially with brackets to hold the shelves, is a sure way to give that cottage-style look. If you have existing cabinets in place, no need to install new ones. Simply remove the doors.

If privacy is not a major concern in your kitchen, paned glass windows and doors will give the kitchen a lot of natural light. You can even add curtains to the inside of the doors if you do want a little bit of privacy. Or you can also add plantation shutters to some windows

Patina on furniture gives off a well-worn look, and beaded boards along walls and islands also work well. Use cooler tones or paint the beaded boards white. However, don't be afraid to add a bright color to make things pop!

All of this looks great on top of wood flooring. Be sure to get a natural tone that you think works best, whether it is dark or light.

Easy Electrical Troubleshooting | El Paso Home Builders

Sometimes electrical problems in our homes can be taken care of quickly with a little troubleshooting. Follow these tips to save yourself some money and frustration in your new home.

An Outlet Isn't Working
Sometimes outlets are controlled by a wall switch. Make sure the switch isn’t in the OFF position. If the wall switch is in the ON position, check the circuit breaker to see if it has been tripped. If it has been tripped, reset it.

A Ceiling Light or Lamp Won’t Turn On
Check the lightbulb by screwing it into another light source/lamp. If the bulb is good, check the circuit breaker. Also, check for wall switches in the OFF position.

Garbage Disposals Won’t Operate
Disposals have reset buttons, so be sure to locate that first. If the disposal and dishwasher are designed to plug into an outlet, as opposed to being directly wired, make sure that the disposal and dishwasher are plugged into the right outlets. Finally, check the circuit breaker.

Electric Water Heater Won’t Function
Check your circuit breaker to see if it has been tripped. If it hasn't, turn the power off, and then push the reset button located under the water heater access cover.

Oven Isn't Heating
Refer to the owner’s manual first and make sure you’re operating the time controls properly. Then check the circuit breaker.

If you are still experiencing electrical problems after doing some quick troubleshooting, contact an electrician. Your new home should always accommodate you, but it's always a good idea to know all about your home and the steps to take to take care of it.

Keeping Your New Home Warm | El Paso Home Builders

The weather is cooling down quite a bit here in El Paso this week. We know heating new homes can get expensive. To help cut heating costs, there are some things you can do around your house to help! Huffington Post gives their tips.

By closing off unused rooms, you can help prevent cold air from moving around the house and help contain the heat you've generated.

Believe it or not, your ceiling fan can also help! "By setting them clockwise in the winter at a lower speed, you can drive warm air down towards you and your guests."

Add some layers to your floor. "Floors account for as much as 10 percent of heat loss if they're not insulated, according to the National Energy Foundation, andrugs can be that missing insulation. They'll keep cool air from seeping up into the room..."

Grab some foil from your kitchen and put it behind the radiators in your home. It will reflect heat back into the home and not let it escape through the walls.

Move that furniture around your new home and keep it away from windows. "Sitting by the window can cause radiant heat loss from your body to the glass make you feel cold."

And of course, blankets, sweaters, and hot water bottles still do the trick!

Buying a new home is a big investment, and any penny you can save is important! By following simple tips like these, you can help keep your heating bills low in your new home this cold season.

Cleaning Stove Tops in New Homes | El Paso Home Builders

When you buy or build your new home, everything is brand new: New paint, new floors, new fixtures, and new appliances. To help keep all these things looking new over time, it's a great idea to take the proper care for them.

To help keep your new appliances clean in your home, follow these tips! To clean stubborn cooked-on stains on glass tops, soak the area in the strongest cleaner your cook top can handle and with a single-edged scraper, scrape slowly and firmly. Be careful not to press too hard and hold the scraper at a 30-40 degree angle. After you have scraped the stains, wipe the cook top clean.

Grates from a gas cook top can be run in the dishwasher as long as you check your manual to make sure it is safe. For cooked- on stains on grates, soak them in warm, soapy water and scrub gently. A scouring pad can be used if they are not coated and for coated grates, use a sponge.

For electric stover burners in new homes, remove them from the stove top when they are completely cool. Most should slide out with a gentle tug and lift from the connection point. Using a cloth and mild dish soap and water, rinse any residue from the burner coils. Take care not to get any part of the the electrical connection wet, and don't submerge any part of the burners. For cooked-on stains, make a paste from baking soda and water, then apply it to the tough spot. Give it about 20 minutes to sit, then scrub and rinse the burner. Make sure the burners are completely dry before you try to replace them.

Buying a new home is an important step in your life so be sure to take good care of it. If you are ready to see some new homes, give us a call! We offer over 30 floor plans and have several model homes available to see. We are one of the top home builders in El Paso and currently building in several new communities. We strive to always provide you with excellent customer service, outstanding workmanship and innovative quality homes!

Buying New Homes vs. Renting

Owning a new home is one of the most important and exciting moments in your life. We know it can also be a bit scary. Don't worry. There are several benefits to buying a new home rather than renting.

1. It is YOUR home: In your new home, you have complete freedom to style it as you wish. You can paint the walls, attach permanent fixtures in the walls, and landscape as you please. You never have to worry about checking in with a landlord beforehand.

2. Tax Advantages.: Owning a new home may allow you to deduct a portion of mortgage interest and property taxes from your federal and state income taxes. We recommend consulting with a tax advisor first to make sure you are receiving any benefits you deserve.

3. Building Equity: Over time, you home can increase in value. And this means, you have the opportunity to build equity, which can allow you the choice to take out a second loan for home improvements, tuition, emergency expenses and more.

These are just a few of several benefits to owning a new home. Weigh your options and look at all the pros of buying or building a new home. At Pointe Homes, we want to help you achieve that dream! Give us a call today and find out how we can build for you!

Finding the Right Home | El Paso Home Builders

What are you looking for in a new home? Everybody has different needs and priorities. The style and type of new home you buy or build should reflect your lifestyle and what is most important to you.

If you have children, think about some options that might make things easier. Think about the layout of your new home. With small children, keeping their room near the master suite makes it easier to check-in on them in the middle of the night. In the kitchen, a walk-in pantry might be a feature to consider in the kitchen if you want more storage space. And speaking of the kitchen, a kitchen opening to a great room will let you keep an eye on your children while you are in the kitchen.

An open great room is also a great idea if you are planning to entertain in your new home. If you are busy preparing in the kitchen, an open area will allow you to still mingle with everyone. If you love to entertain outdoors, how about some sliding doors to a large backyard patio? It'll make the entire home feel open.

What other needs are important to you in your new home? Share your great ideas with us! We are one of the best home builders in El Paso and can help you find the right home for you or build you a custom home from scratch. Give us a call at 915-790-1515!
