Pointe Homes Helping El Paso Move Forward

Have you checked out the June Men's Issue of The City Magazine? Our Builder/Owner, Carlos, is featured and discusses revitalizing El Paso by building spaces that "innovate and inspire" the city.

Villalobos founded Pointe Homes with his brother in 2006 and began his first large-scale project with building Las Lunas subdivision. There were many challenges, but Villalobos continued to push forward. Before starting Pointe Homes, he had no prior experience in home construction, but learned quickly from those around him to build Pointe Homes into what it is today.

Today, Pointe Homes is a successful company with homes starting in the $130K's and up "in over 200 lots across 12 plus highly-desirable communities." Plus, Villalobos is the current President of the El Paso Association of Builders. Pointe Homes will be featured in this year's Parade of Homes and is currently constructing The Uptown, a 14-unit upscale apartment complex, along with the Franklin Avenue Apartments, located behind Southwest University Park.

Villalobos is taking a big role in helping El Paso move forward and will keeping building for you!

Expand Your Small Patio in Easy Ways

It's patio weather! Time to sit outside and relax with these warm evenings. And you don't need a large space to enjoy your patio. BHG gives their tips on how to make a small patio space appear bigger!

Outdoor drapes helps draw your attention up and away from the floor space. Add some style with a bamboo pole as a curtain rod.

Another way to draw attention up is with string lights. They will help illuminate the area and add some charm. You can even suit it to your style with bulbs, lanterns, or mason jars.

No matter the space, a mirror can always make any small space appear more open. Add some contrast with a gold or more ornate mirror above a rustic plant stand.

Furniture that is too big will clutter the area. Instead, choose smaller furniture that does not obstruct the flow.

If you have a patio or any outdoor space, utilize it and enjoy these summer days. And hey, it's El Paso, you can use it all year round!

Ceiling Accents in Your New Home

When you are buying your new home or building a custom home from scratch, there are so many details and features to consider: material for countertops, faucets, window treatments, doors, etc. But don't forget about your ceiling!

Designing your ceiling to your taste and style can really add movement and variation to your new home. Wooden beams, like the ones shown above, can add a sense of warmth and coziness to any room. Arches can add movement and allow your new home to flow.

If you have a more traditional style, coffered ceilings look beautiful, especially in kitchens. If your style is more modern, a recessed ceiling with a contrasting color painted in the step can add a little bit of drama and allow any small space to appear larger.

If you have any walls painted bright colors, a contrasting white trim can really highlight the room's features. For a more airy feel in your new home, windows or bookcase that reach the ceiling can enhance the light of the room.

No matter your style or budget, there are so many ways to beautifully accent your new home. If you are ready to move into a new home, we can find you the perfect one. If you want to design your new home from scratch, we can help you throughout the entire process.  Give us a call today and find out how we can start building for you!

Cottage-Style Kitchen Tips

If your style is more traditional, and you love the look of a cottage-style kitchen in your new home, Better Homes and Gardens, gives their tips!

Open shelving in your kitchen, especially with brackets to hold the shelves, is a sure way to give that cottage-style look. If you have existing cabinets in place, no need to install new ones. Simply remove the doors.

If privacy is not a major concern in your kitchen, paned glass windows and doors will give the kitchen a lot of natural light. You can even add curtains to the inside of the doors if you do want a little bit of privacy. Or you can also add plantation shutters to some windows

Patina on furniture gives off a well-worn look, and beaded boards along walls and islands also work well. Use cooler tones or paint the beaded boards white. However, don't be afraid to add a bright color to make things pop!

All of this looks great on top of wood flooring. Be sure to get a natural tone that you think works best, whether it is dark or light.

There are several ways to make your kitchen stand out in a more traditional home. To read the rest of BHG's tips, click here.

Dining for Every Family | El Paso New Homes

Easter is this weekend! If you plan to have your family over for an Easter dinner in your new home, having the right dining room area is very helpful.

If your family has a lot of kids or if you are just a more casual family, a kitchen that overlooks the living room and dining room in an open area, is very beneficial. It allows you to watch the kids and talk with family while you are preparing your meal.

If you prefer a more formal dining area, a separate dining room works well. You can still have a small breakfast table in the kitchen and have a larger dining room table in a separate area. If you want to add a little more elegance, play around with your features and decor. A hanging chandelier over the dining room table can make your dinners a little more special!

Different floor plans in new homes are suited for different people. There are many types of families. And depending on your needs and budget, we can find the right new home for you. We have several new floor plans for homes that are ready to move into. Our floor plans can even be modified. Christmas Tree Tips | New Homes El Paso

Christmas is coming up! If you are celebrating Christmas in your new home this year and you want to get a real tree, there are some tips you can follow to keep your tree fresh and last longer in a safe way.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT TREE
When you are out shopping for a tree, be sure to look for one that is cut straight across the base. The straighter the cut is, the better the tree will absorb water. Also, be sure to look for a tree that is very green with few brown needles.

HYDRATE YOUR TREE WELL
Be sure you have a big enough water stand that will cover your tree trunk and can hold at least a gallon of water. Check the water level everyday and make sure it is always covering the trunk. A humidifier kept nearby can keep the tree from drying out.

KEEP IT SAFE
To avoid any fires, keep the tree away from the fireplace where sparks may fly out and hit the tree. Also, keep it away from stoves or even a window where it will get direct sunlight.

We hope your tree looks absolutely beautiful in your new home. And we also want it to last you throughout the holiday season and keep you and your loved ones safe. Take care of your family, your tree, and your new home this holiday season!

DIY: Ceiling Style Changes

Popcorn ceilings were once popular in new homes, but today, there are so many new ways you can add some style to your ceiling. House Beautiful gives their DIY steps on fixing up an older popcorn ceiling.

SCRAPE AND PAINT IT
After covering the walls and floor with a drop cloth and cutting off the power to any light fixtures on the ceiling, wet the popcorn layer with water until saturated. Scrape it away, touch it up with joint compound, and then buff it. After this, you can then prime and paint it. House Beautiful notes, "if your house was built before 1980, test a sample of your ceiling tested for asbestos first. You can buy professional test kits at home improvement stores and online.Asbestos popcorn was banned in 1978 but could still be purchased in the early eighties."

LINE IT WITH WOOD
If you don't want to scrape it, you can also just cover it completely with wood planks. "Adhere thin (but quality-grade) tonge-and-groove wood planks to the ceiling with a coast of Liquid Nails, then secure them in place with a nail gun". Afterwards, you can finish it with a stain.

TILE IT
Another no-scrapping option is to cover it with faux-tin Styrofoam tiles.

The Benefits of Owning a New Home

Renting vs. Owning

Owning a new home can bring you security, comfort, and pride. It is a huge step in life and a very important decision to make for you and your family. Are you currently renting and thinking about buying your first home? We know it can be scary, but we're here to help! Here are some benefits to owning a new home:

OWNERSHIP
Ownership means just that: that new home is YOURS! You will always enjoy the feeling that you worked hard to buy this home for yourself and your family.

CONTROL
And because you own a home, you have total control over it! You no longer answer to a landlord. If you want to make any changes in your home, such as painting, home improvements, you don't need to ask permission from a landlord or worry about making a landlord upset. Any improvements you make in your new home will only benefit you and add value to your home.

STABILITY
Your new home is yours to live in for as long as you wish. You do not have to worry about your landlord asking you to move or increasing the rent. With a fixed-rate mortgage, the payment you make in the last month of your mortgage will be the same as or even less than the one you made in the first month.

EQUITY
With owning a new home, there are tax benefits of being able to deduct your mortgage interest from your federal taxes.

If you have any more questions about owning a new home, give us a call at 915-790-1515. We're here to help you every step of the way.

Cleaning Your Showerhead | New Homes El Paso

When you move into a new home, it is equipped with top quality features. It is always a good idea to take good care of them so they can last you a very long time. When showerheads get dirty with mineral deposits, the water cannot flow evenly. Here are some ways to keep them clean!

One way is the remove the showerhead and soak it in vinegar. With a new showerhead, it will screw right on to the shower arm. If it is older, it will connect to a ball-shaped swivel end. If you have trouble removing it, a good way to clean it is to slip a rubber band over the top of the showerhead. Fill a plastic bag with white vinegar and slip the top of the band underneath the rubber band. After one hour, remove the bag and run your shower to flush it clean.

For a much deeper clean follow these steps from Better Homes and Gardens

DISCONNECT YOUR SHOWERHEAD
To disconnect the showerhead, unscrew the nut at the shower arm with a wrench, not pliers

RINSE
"Run a sharp blast of water through the showerhead by holding it upside down underneath a faucet. Your goal is to rinse loosened debris out through the opening that connects to the shower arm."

DISMANTLE AND CLEAN
If there are still mineral deposits, scrub the showerhead with an old toothbrush and vinegar. and then use a toothpick or safety pin to poke out additional deposits. Soak the parts in vinegar overnight to dissolve any remaining deposits. Rinse again.

REASSEMBLE AND REINSTALL
"First wrap new plumbing tape around the threads of the shower arm to ensure a good seal. Reattach the showerhead to the shower arm using the wrench. Protect the fixture's finish with soft rags or towels while you're working."

Be sure to take good care of all your appliances in your new home. We want your home to accommodate you to the fullest for years and years. If you are looking for a new home or ready to build your custom dream home, give us a call! We want to build for you.

Lawn Care In The Winter | New Homes El Paso

El Paso is sunny and warm most of the year. But there are definitely those days in winter when it can get pretty cold! When it comes to your new home, there are several things you can do to prepare for those cold days. But don't forget about your lawn. Take proper care to avoid frozen lawns and plants this winter.

  • Stay up-to-date on predicted freeze dates and be sure to water well before so the water can reach the root of your plants. When watering trees, be sure to water a very large area around the tree to cover the entire root zone, which can extend further out than you may think.

  • Don't water if the temperature is below 40 degrees as this can actually cause a freeze. Choose to water on warmer days.

  • Water your lawn every 3 to 10 days, for about 15 minutes each time, but be careful not to water deeper than four to six inches, as your lawn will not be able to extract it. You can easily measure the depth of water by inserting a ruler in the ground. If it is much deeper than six inches, you’ve watered too much; if you can’t press down farther than three inches, then you haven’t watered enough.

The exterior of your new home is just as important as the interior. Be sure to take good care of it throughout the year.

Fireplace Safety in Your New Home

Yes, we still have warm days in El Paso, but the nights are getting chilly and we'll soon feel the temperatures drop! And when it gets colder, it'll be time to turn on the fireplace in your new home. While it is still warm outside, here are some tips you can follow to care for the fireplace to keep it safe and working well throughout the winter.

CLEANING THE FIREPLACE
Before using your fireplace, be sure to get it inspected and have your chimney cleaned, whether your fireplace is wood or gas burning, to prevent buildup of hazardous soot and debris. It's important to call a certified chimney inspector instead of trying to clean it yourself because they can also check for gas leaks (gas chimneys), and structural and lining damage, which can lead to house fires and poor-quality air buildup.

USING QUALITY WOOD
Only use dense firewood, like maple and oak. These types of wood an produce more heat and burn longer. Using firewood that is green or comes from resinous tree species, like pine can be very dangerous because it is prone to combustion.

PROPER BUILDING
Only use kindling like dry twigs or sticks as igniters instead of flammable liquids or paper. Always make sure the wood is placed on a grate toward the back of the fireplace and never build the fire too large. This can cause too much smoke and heat, which crack your chimney.

ALWAYS USE A FIRE SCREEN
Fire screens or metal curtains in front of the fire to keep sparks and fallen wood pieces from flying into the room. Make sure the screen covers the entire opening of your fireplace or debris could find its way through and be dangerous to your family and your home.

HOME FIRE SAEFTY
Lighting a fire in your fireplace can be very cozy. But you are near fire, which can be dangerous. So be sure to take all the necessary precautions. Make sure your smoke detectors have working batteries and have your fire extinguisher inspected by a professional. Once you are finished with the fire, make sure it’s fully extinguished before leaving your home or going to bed. Never leave a fire unattended.

We want you to enjoy your new home, but we also want you and your family to stay safe. Before lighting the first fire in your fireplace of your new home, follow these tips so you and your family can have many happy years in your home.

Whether luxurious or slickly machined, it should be easy to maneuver and the action should feel firm." And why stop at one faucet? Better Homes and Gardens says that "secondary faucets are real labor-savers for the home chef." Check out the rest of their tips here.
